why we like her?

Not only is Adriana Lima considered one of Victoria's Secret's "Perfect 10" models, but as a spokesperson for Armani Jeans, we're not sure whether we'd rather see her in lingerie or jeans... tough call, ain't it?

why is she famous?

As a spokeswoman for Victoria's Secret, Guess? and Armani, she has become one of the most in-demand runway models in the world. She's also walked the catwalk for designers Vera Wang, Christian Lacroix, Emanuel Ungaro, and Ralph Lauren. When she's not making men worldwide drool, she's helping Brazilian orphans in her native land and dabbling in acting.

overall rating

Adriana Lima may not have wanted to be a supermodel when she was growing up, but lo and behold, she's strutting her stuff for magazines and fashion shows seen by millions. Paris, Milan and New York are very different from her hometown of Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, but Adriana, with her diamond eyes, seems to take it all in stride -- besides, her worldwide travels are great excuses to shop.

8 p.m. (CBS) "How I Met Your Mother." It's hard to complain about network cross-promotion and synergy, especially when it involves Heidi Klum, Marisa Miller, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Selita Ebanks and Adriana Lima, but that's exactly what this episode is - a promo. The episode revolves around Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) going to a Victoria's Secret after-party to see if he can get his manly magic back. No surprise, CBS will air the Victoria's Secret fashion show Dec. 4, not that we're complaining or anything.

8 (TLC) "Little People, Big World." The Roloff family in tonight's episode heads to Abaco, a tiny island in the Bahamas, as a way to get some relief from the stresses of their farm and life at home. Undoubtedly, a bit of family drama begins in this episode and continues on in future shows.

9 (ABC) "Samantha Who?" Eddie Cibrian, who spent time on "Third Watch" and "Invasion," turns up tonight as a contractor, set up on a blind date with Samantha (Christina Applegate) - her first since getting amnesia. Also guest-starring in this episode is Kiele Sanchez, last seen on "Lost" and the WB's canceled-too-soon drama "Related."

9 (NBC) "Heroes." There's a lot going on in this drama, which hasn't generated the buzz or ratings of a year ago. Tonight, Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) travels to Primatech Paper in Texas with his new friend to destroy the virus, which he is left to believe will kill 93% of the world's population. Also, Niki (Ali Larter) goes to Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey) with bad news. Wow, and that's just part of it.

TV best bets

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER -- Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) is in a slump, feeling as if he's losing his touch with the ladies. His luck is about to change big time, as he's invited to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show afterparty. Heidi Klum and fellow models Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Marisa Miller and Selita Ebanks guest star. (8 p.m., CBS)

CHUCK -- They thought he was dead, but he's back and looking for brains! No, he's not a zombie; he's Chuck's (Zachary Levi) nemesis, Bryce (Matthew Bomer), rescued by some unsavory types who want the data in Chuck's brain destroyed. (8 p.m., NBC)

NOTES FROM THE UNDERBELLY -- It's baack! Did you miss it? The sitcom about a couple dealing with their first pregnancy returns to the lineup. Peter Cambor and Jennifer Westfeldt play parents-to-be Andrew and Lauren, who find themselves in a sea of conflicting opinions on their situation, thanks to their friends. (9:30 p.m., ABC)

CSI: MIAMI -- In this new episode, a rich family's nanny is found dead during a party, and the wealthy clan soon learns the hard way that money can buy a lot of things, but it can't buy a shield from the eyes of Caine (David Caruso) and his CSI team. (10 p.m., CBS)

JOURNEYMAN -- Stay on task, Danny. A two-part tale concludes with the new episode in which Dan (Kevin McKidd) makes a special trip to 1983 and meets a future criminal. (10:01 p.m., NBC)

LOS ANGELES — Although we find it somewhat hard to swallow, Victoria’s Secret supermodels feel fat and frightful sometimes, just like the rest of us.

"I have a lot of ugly days and bad moments — we don’t just roll out of bed and look like this. We aren’t machines or dolls," Karolina Kurkova told Pop Tarts on Tuesday as the lingerie label ladies received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

Plus Adriana Lima not sleeping with Marko Jaric…

by Lang Whitaker

Last season wasn’t a good one for Celtics fans, but it must’ve been even worse for Doc Rivers. The year began with us exposing Doc’s Stevie Wonder past, and then Doc responding. As the Celts went along, losing way more than they lost, Doc became the focal point, to the point where Bill Simmons wrote a column about Rivers being fired to try and get him fired, which caused enough of a stir that Rivers had to respond.

What a difference a year (and two All-Stars) makes. Today the Celts have the best record in the NBA at 11-1, and they’re the prohibitive favorite to win the Eastern Conference. Now, surely the anti-Doc people here will argue that Doc Watson could coach this team, what with Kevin Garnett all pumped up and actually motivated and stuff.

But it’s not that easy — I don’t care how many great players you have on a team, guys need some sort of structure, some kind of leadership. Whatever Doc is doing, besides ripping off Brad Pitt, it’s working.

It’s early, sure, but there are a few teams off to great starts. Assuming things continue the way they started, the names in the running for Coach Of The Year besides Doc will probably include Stan Van Jeremy, Larry Krystowiak, Mike D’Antoni, Gregg Popovich and Jerry Sloan. Only one of those guys had people calling for his head a year ago.

• A few years ago I wrote a small story on Marko Jaric for SLAM when he was playing for the LA Clippers. It was during the offseason, and Jaric was in Yugoslavia playing for his National Team. Someone gave me his cell phone number, which began with a “+” and had a lot of 0’s and dashes in it. I called and found Jaric chilling in his hotel room. We talked for a long time, about growing up in Belgrade, living in Greece and then, at that time, becoming a fixture on the LA club scene. And somehow we got around to his flawless English. Jaric told me…

“I’ve never taken a lesson. I grew up watching movies and listening to music. My teammates on the Clippers can’t believe that when I was really young, Tupac was my idol. In Belgrade at that time, I swear, half of Belgrade was East Coast and half was West Coast. I was West Coast, even back then.”

All that to say, Jaric is a pretty funny, well-rounded guy.

And now he’s a legend.

According to a bunch of papers and blogs, Marko Jaric is now dating Victoria’s Secret supermodel Adriana Lima. As Frank Lucas would say, “My man!”

One small (ahem) thing people seem to be missing out on, though: According to a GQ story last year, Adriana Lima does not believe in sex before marriage.

Perhaps this explains why Jaric is posting the highest field goal percentage of his life.

Suddenly he truly understands that every shot counts.

• Watched a lot of that Suns/Warriors game last night, and something just doesn’t feel right with Phoenix, specifically Steve Nash, so much so that I got out my laptop during the game to look up his numbers. While his shooting percentages are up across the board, his turnovers are also way up, almost one more per game than he averaged two seasons ago. I guess that Nash making turnovers is partly a function of the Phoenix offense — he’s supposed to run around and be crazy with the ball — but he’s also always been great at protecting the rock.

• One other thing I learned about Nash last night: He’s attempted 40 free throws this season…and hasn’t missed one yet. Maybe Dwight Howard needs to start playing soccer and riding a skateboard around Manhattan during the summer.

• Why is it in a movie or a TV show, whenever someone steps up to a microphone or a PA system, it gives an initial blast of feedback before settling down? It happens every time.

• Finally, today’s Quote of the Day goes to Brad Miller, who described Beno Udrih thusly: “He’s a typical, goofy European with tight pants, tight clothes — pretty standard. Definitely a metrosexual.”

Adriana Francesca Lima was born June 12, 1981 in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil. Ethnicity is French, Portuguese, Native-American, Japanese and Caribbean.

Adriana Lima began her career as a model when she won the Ford Supermodel of the Brazil contest in 1996 and went on to finish second in the Ford Supermodel of the World contest. She got a contract with Elite Model Agency and moved to New York. After this, she has appeared on the covers of the major fashion magazines, in ads and TV commercials for numerous big brands and on runways around the world. In the general public she is probably best known as one of the Victoria’s Secrets models in catalogues, ads and in the popular TV transmitted lingerie shows. If the internet popularity can be taken as a guideline, Adriana’s popularity is almost up there with names like Laetitia Casta, Heidi Klum and Gisele Bündchen?. The world of high fashion may have it’s own, different, hierarchy, but who cares about that? Adriana’s popularity is no doubt due to the sensuality that runs through everything she does. In most of her pictures you’ll see that naughty spark in her beautiful eyes, and on the catwalk her turns are simply sexier than the rest. In her spare time, Adriana dedicates her services to help orphans in her native Brazil.
Adriana Lima watches sexy babes! November 7, 2007

The self-proclaimed virgin model took time off from being the one ogled to being the one ogling sexily dresses and scantily clad women. According to reports, Adriana Lima was spotted watching the This Is Burlesque show at Corio in the New York City last Friday night. The Victoria's Secret Angel went to the racy show after she wrapped a shoot of her own show that day. It must quite refreshing to be the one watching, eh Adriana?

In other news, CBS announced last October 29 that a sextet of Victoria's Secret models will be guest starring on the November 26 episode of "How I Met Your Mother". With Adriana Lima are Heidi Klum ("Project Runway"), Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio ("Entourage"), Marisa Miller and Selita Ebanks ("Still Standing"). In the said episode, Barney is worried he might be losing his mojo until he wangles an invite to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show after-party. And that's where the gorgeous models come in and hilarity ensues. Watch out for it next week on CBS!

Adriana Lima inspires celibacy in young women October 3, 2007

Victoria’s Secret girls are once again in the news after the lingerie company and the airline Virgin America officially announced their alliance this week. Six of the world’s sexiest supermodels -- Adriana Lima , Karolina Kurkova, Selita Ebanks, Izabel Goulart, Alessandra Ambrosio and Australian Miranda Kerr – will be carried by Virgin’s exclusive plane from New York to Los Angeles for the annual Victoria’s Secret show on November 15.

Adriana Lima is famous not just for being a VS Angel but also for her statement to GQ last year that she planned to be celibate until her wedding night, despite that millions of men have already seen her almost naked. She shared, “They have to respect that this is my choice. If there's no respect, that means they don't want me.” And because of her statement, Adriana has inspired other young women to be celibate. UCLA student Kate Jones told, “Thanks to Adriana Lima, all my friends and I are advocating chastity. We believe a lot of young girls have forgotten how to respect themselves, and it’s about time we went back to some old-fashioned values.” Go girls! And go Adriana!=)

Brazilian model Adriana Lima is probably best recognized as a spokesmodel for Guess?, Victoria's Secret and Armani Jeans. Becoming one of the world's top fashion models, Adriana later branched out to acting, playing a role in the 2001 short film The Hire: The Follow.

The blue/gray-eyed Brazilian beauty, whose trademark is a mole on her chin, stands at 5' 10" tall and has the measurements of 33-23-33. She was listed as one of Maxim's Hot 100 in 2003. As for her private life, Adriana was engaged to Lenny Kravitz (she appeared in his music video "Yesterday Is Gone") in the spring of 2002.

Lima Bean

Childhood and Family:

In Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Adriana Francesca Lima, nicknamed Lima Bean, was born on June 12, 1981. Adriana speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese, and is a blend of French, Portuguese, Native-American, Japanese and Caribbean heritage. While not busy walking on runways, Adriana dedicates her time helping with an orphanage called "Caminos da Luz" (Ways of Light) in her homeland Brazil. She also helps the unfortunate children in El Salvador de Bahia by buying clothes for them.

Good Energy And Feelings

"Fashion is about good energy. It's about feelings. That's what I have to give the people, good energy and good feelings." Adriana Lima

First spotted while shopping at a local mall, 13-year-old Adriana Lima joined a Ford Supermodel of Brazil model search and finished 1st in the competition. In 1996, she competed in the Ford Supermodel of the World contest and placed 2nd. In the next year, she landed a contract with Elite Model Agency and subsequently packed for New York.

Under her new agent, Adriana scored a campaign for the fashion label Anna Molinari. She also managed to work with the world's top photographers like Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh and Ellen von Unwerth and appeared in several fashion and women magazines including Vogue (Italy) and Harper's Bazaar in 1997, Vogue (UK), I-D (UK), Marie Claire (Brazil), and Vogue (Italy) in 1998. She followed it up with the next year's appearances in Vogue (U.S., Germany, UK) and Marie Claire (Italy). She also stepped on runways for many prestigious designers like Cynthia Rowley, Vera Wang, Christian Lacroix, Emanuel Ungaro, Betsey Johnson, Girls Rule, Richard Tyler, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Randolph Duke, Ralph Lauren, and Valentino.

Adriana's first big break was being the model for a Vassarette printed advertisement in New York's Times Square. She later was hurled towards the spotlight after being chosen as the spokesmodel for Guess?. Adriana starred in the company's Fall 2000 ad campaign, which was shot by Pablo Alfaro in Northern California, along with several other young fresh faces. Soon afterward, a string of campaign offers followed, notably Anna Sui Jeans, Bebe, Gasoline, Mossimo, BCBG, Keds and XOXO.

Another modeling job arrived when Adriana became the spokesmodel for Victoria's Secrets. She modeled in the company's catalogues and ads with supermodels Heidi Klum and Laetitia Casta. She also appeared in the popular TV transmitted lingerie shows, The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which she debuted with in 2000 and later became the show opener in 2003. Currently, she starred in the Italian TIM mobile Commercials.

On screen, Adriana has been profiled on E! Entertainment Television, The Travel Channel, Viva, Extra and Whipple's World. She also shared the screen with Mickey Rourke, playing a wife in the BMW short film, The Hire: The Follow in 2001. In November of 2004, she guest starred in "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn."
